Florida Orange Blossom Plate

An orange blossom, the state flower, laid over a pale green map of Florida, with the serial stamped across it in green. The design has run since 2003 and changed in 2026 by exactly one word: MYFLORIDA.COM at the top became FLORIDA, retiring a web address the state had worn on its cars for twenty-three years. The plate shown is a reconstruction carrying an invented serial, so no real registration is depicted.
Still on the road
This is a current issue, first seen in 2026 and still being handed out. Nothing about it is settled history: the serial sequence is still advancing, and the design will only stop where the state decides to replace it.
Half stamped, half printed
Run a thumb across this plate and only the serial answers. The registration is still pressed into the metal the old way, while the state name, the slogan and any artwork are printed flat onto the reflective sheeting around it. Most plates issued in America today are made like this: the part that must be legible at speed and survive a decade of weather is stamped, and the part that carries the state's personality is printed, because printing can do colour and detail that a press cannot.
One plate, three legends, sixty-seven counties
The strip along the foot of this plate is not fixed. Florida offers three standard choices at no extra cost, all on this same artwork: the name of your county, SUNSHINE STATE, or IN GOD WE TRUST. The county name is the default almost everywhere, which means sixty-seven versions of the same plate differing by one embossed word. The archive holds this as a single design, because a plate that changes with the driver's address or preference is being customised rather than redesigned, and counting the variants would bury the base series under its own paperwork.
