Mississippi Magnolia Plate

Mississippi replaces its plate every five years by statute, and this is the 2024 to 2029 issue. A white magnolia on a navy disc sits between the letters and the digits, doing the work a dash does elsewhere; the flower is the state's and has been since 1900. The county name is stamped along the foot. This design dropped both the state seal and the words In God We Trust that the plate before it carried. The plate shown is a reconstruction carrying an invented serial, so no real registration is depicted.
One plate, several years
This design served from 2024 to 2029 rather than for a single year. A plate that stays on a car across several registrations cannot date itself, so the year is proved separately, by a tab or sticker in the earlier period and by a windscreen sticker later. It is the opposite arrangement to the annual plates, where the plate WAS the registration.
Half stamped, half printed
Run a thumb across this plate and only the serial answers. The registration is still pressed into the metal the old way, while the state name, the slogan and any artwork are printed flat onto the reflective sheeting around it. Most plates issued in America today are made like this: the part that must be legible at speed and survive a decade of weather is stamped, and the part that carries the state's personality is printed, because printing can do colour and detail that a press cannot.
